Madeleine Moran is a songwriter, a performer, and an educator at Harmonic Music Studios in Washington, DC, where she teaches private voice, piano, and ukulele lessons. As a member of the choir at the Cathedral of St. Matthew in Dupont Circle, she performs at weekly services and special events and concerts, and leads the congregation as a cantor. Madeleine is also available for hire as a wedding soloist.
Madeleine performs her original songs and covers throughout the DMV, including venues in Adams Morgan, the District Wharf, Arlington and Tenleytown. She also writes songs for others on commission. Her debut single “Singing to Myself” was released in February, 2019. Madeleine’s song “The Future is Female” was performed in Sydney, Australia as a winner of the Just Music competition and her songs “Who Lets Me Do This” and “When Does It Stop” were selected for performance by actors in the New York Musical Festival.
Madeleine’s composition Spirit was premiered by the Princeton Singers at the 2018 Lehigh University Choral Composers Forum and has recently been selected for the Artifice Ensemble Concert in Washington, DC. Another of her choral pieces, After Great Pain, was performed at the 2018 ACDA Eastern Conference and was also a winner of the Baltimore Choral Arts composition contest.
Madeleine’s brass quintet Mud Puddles was performed in the 2019 UNK New Music Festival for Composers and another of her woodwind quintets was selected by the Wisconsin Alliance for Composers in their 2018 New Music Festival. A movement from her song cycle of Emily Dickinson poems, Superb Surprise, was performed at the Raleigh-Durham SAI Alumnae Chapter’s 2019 spring concert.
Madeleine has a Bachelor of Music in Composition with honors from Lawrence University’s Conservatory of Music. In 2018, she was inducted into the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda and she received their composition award for her exceptional originality and skill in music composition.
