Bass-Baritone Gary Scott Press is an active performer in the Greater New York City Area. He is a member of the Musica Viva of New York and the All Souls Church Choir, both based in Manhattan. He has performed choral works with the New York Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Symphony, Choir of the Alvin Alley Dance Company, St. George’s Choral Society, and at Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival and the Hotchkiss Summer Portals. Most recently, he was a vocalist in the world premiere of David Lang’s Mile Long Opera which took place on NYC’s Highline. Mr. Press has performed in all the major performing venues in New York with distinguished conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yuri Temirkanov, Lorin Maazel, Kent Tritle, James Bagwell and Amy Kaiser. Gary has recently been featured as soloist with The Dessoff Choirs and at The Performing Arts Institute in Northeastern PA. Mr. Press has had a lengthy and diverse life in music having earned performance degrees at the Eastman and Manhattan Schools of Music leading to a performing career as a professional tuba player spanning more than 20 years before shifting his specialization to voice. He has studied with the renowned tenor Robert White.
