Soprano Alex Meakem is a graduate of Westminster Choir College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Voice Studies under the tutelage of Dr. Sharon Sweet.
While at Westminster, Alex performed with several prestigious ensembles, including Julliard 415, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. She has been a soloist in several major works, such as Arvo Pärt’s Kanon Pokajanon, Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms”, which she sang in Carnegie Hall with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Other esteemed conductors she has worked with include Alan Gilbert, Andrew Manze, and Charles Dutoit.
Alex can be heard, both as a chorister and a soloist, on six albums recorded by both Westminster Kantorei, and the Westminster Williamson Voices. In January 2020, she will record another album with The Same Stream choir, conducted by James Jordan. As an active member of the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, Alex is poised to perform Handel’s Messiah with Jane Glover this December. Earlier this year, she was added to the roster for Donald Nally’s emsemble, The Crossing.
She currently sings as a Choral Scholar with the Voices Chorale New Jersey, and works as a cantor and choir member at the Church of the Sacred Heart in South Plainfield, NJ, and at the Episcopal Church of Princeton. In addition to performing, Alex works at Octopus Music School teaching voice and piano lessons.
