Auditions

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2018 holiday season.

2019 Auditions

The Village Carolers will be auditioning for spots in its 2019 roster over the spring. Interested applicants should send resume and head shot digitally to auditions@thevillagecarolers.com and let us know which level of involvement you are interested in. We will contact you if we feel you might be a good fit for one of our two performing ensembles:

TVC Premium Blend

Our premier ensemble, TVC Premium Blend is a highly rehearsed performance-oriented group. General availability from Thanksgiving through Christmas, and especially on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sunday afternoons/evenings the first three weekends in December is necessary. Music preparation expectations are high (first verse of everything from memory, familiar enough with other verses to only glance at them). TVC Premium Blend is the ensemble chosen throughout the year to perform in any television or film appearances, audio recordings, and our most high profile live performances. Are you a great sight reader? We don’t actually care. Premium Blend is not about reading, it’s about performing. Professional level vocalists only should apply. You must be able to sing in a variety of languages comfortably, and be able to switch between robust classical singing and tight jazz harmonies from one piece to the next. There is no age limit, but you must be able to perform for multiple hours. Premium Blend is a high energy performance group.

Premium Blend rehearses with the general ensemble, and has additional rehearsals of their own to learn the additional pieces which only TVC Premium Blend will be presenting. All rehearsals are unpaid. Premium Blend singers have multiple and more elaborate costumes, and receive a higher rate of pay than the general ensemble.  They will also receive first priority for all performances during the season. They also may not perform with any other professional caroling groups.

Those interested in auditioning for Premium Blend will be asked to prepare five of our carols/songs, which will be provided if an audition is granted. Applicant will be asked to perform with experienced veterans of The Village Carolers on those pieces. Any singer who is unable to demonstrate the ability to perform at the expected level in the final rehearsal will have the option to join the General Ensemble, assuming at least those performance level expectations are being met. Sheet music is provided digitally well in advance of the rehearsal period, which takes place in the fall.

The Village Carolers (General Ensemble)

Most of our carolers perform with our general ensemble. Memorization expectations are not as high as with Premium Blend, but all applicants must be able to sing in a variety of languages comfortably.  There is no age limit, but performances sometimes exceed one hour of non-stop singing at a time.

General Ensemble singers are not required to sing exclusively for The Village Carolers and may perform with other groups (but may not use our music, costumes, lights, folders, or other resources). General Ensemble singers have two unpaid rehearsals for new singers, and two additional unpaid rehearsals with the veterans in which the final rehearsal consists of quartet testing. General Ensemble members are expected to perform the music in the book correctly with folders raised and not continually buried in the score. Any singer who is unable to demonstrate the ability to perform at this level in the final rehearsal will not be issued a costume and will not be invited to sing in any performance opportunities that season. Sheet music is provided digitally well in advance of the rehearsal period, which takes place in the fall.

Those interesting in auditioning for the General Ensemble will be asked to prepare three of our carols/songs, which will be provided if an audition is granted. Applicant will be asked to perform with experienced veterans of The Village Carolers on those pieces.
